Patrol Division
The Patrol Division of the Brunswick Police Department is under the immediate
supervision of Commander Richard Desjardins. The patrol staff consisting of twenty-four uniformed patrol officers
performing daily patrol activities including motor patrol,
bike patrol and downtown foot beats is broken down into three squads.
Each squad has a Lieutenant and Sergeant along with six patrol officers. Patrol
Officer's work week consists of four ten
hour shifts which rotate between days, evening and midnights
every twelve weeks.
Minimum qualifications......

at least 21 years old

good health

Associate degree or 60 college credits (preferably in the criminal justice field)
or equivalent military / law enforcement training

possess a valid drivers license and have a good driving record

satisfactorily pass the Maine Criminal Justice Academy ALERT test with a minimum score
of 50

successfully complete Brunswick Police Department testing
The selection process will include;
physical agility test -
written test - oral board - background investigation
polygraph test -
medical examination - psychological screening

Educational Incentive Pay Program
For
Bachelor's Degree - $1,500 plus 10% of base pay over $15,000.
Lesser amount for Associate's Degree.
Incentive is figured into hourly and overtime rates.
Normally not paid until after probationary period served, however, may be paid
sooner for MCJA graduates.

Residency
Required to
live within a 20 mile radius of the Brunswick Municipal Building.
Shall comply
within 6 months of hire.
Physical Fitness
Required to
pass an annual physical agility using M.C.J.A.standards to maintain employment.
$300.00 bonus for meeting or exceeding
50th percentile.
$600.00 bonus for meeting or exceeding 60th percentile.
Employer to pay up to
$350.00 per year to cover health club membership.
Probation
1 year from
date of graduation from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or Academy waiver
1 year from date of
hire for officers who are already graduates from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy
