Communications Officer
Town of Brunswick Police Department
The Town of Brunswick is seeking an energetic team
player for this challenging and responsible position in
our Police Department.
In this role, you will operate a complex
telecommunication system, transmitting and receiving
radio messages and responding to requests from citizens
by phone or in person for all public safety services
which includes enhanced 9-1-1.
This is a rotating 40-hour per week position
involving daytime, evening and overnight shifts.
The
successful candidate must have a high school diploma or
GED, as well as
experience and proficiency in the use of computers.
You must also have the ability to receive and
disseminate
info
rmation accurately and without delay; maintain composure
during extremely demanding and potentially stressful
situations; and pay close attention to detail.
Prior experience preferred, but will train the
best candidate. The
successful candidate will obtain necessary certification
for a State of Maine PSAP and 911 Center.
Following review of applications, selected
candidates will be invited to a job specific
written/audio test.
This test will be administered the evening of Monday,
July 18, 2011.
(Candidates invited to test are not guaranteed
employment). The
final candidate must pass an extensive background check,
pre-employment physical (including hearing test),
polygraph and psychological exam.
This union position has an initial pay range of
$14.80 to $16.15 per hour with generous benefit package

holidays.

NATURE
OF WORK
This
is skilled work operating a telecommunication system, transmitting
and receiving radio messages and responding to request from
citizens by phone or in person for all public safety services.
Duties
and responsibilities of position involves accurate dissemination
of calls for service to appropriate agencies.
Work
involves clerical activity relating to communicative
responsibilities and operation of a computerized
teletype system. An
employee in this classification works with considerable
independence, but supervision is available from an immediate
patrol supervisor for the complex assignments and during emergency
situations.
EXAMPLES
OF WORK
Transmits
and receives radio calls between a central communications center
and police, fire and ambulance units in the field.
Assigns
and sends officers to various geographic locations which require
service and maintains all necessary related records.
Maintains
all necessary logs as required by the Field Reporting System and
departmental policy.
Responds
to various requests by the public by phone or in person which are
informational, and issues certain requested permits.
Performs
related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge
of the geographics and demographics of the municipality.

of radio techniques as prescribed by Federal and State regulations

DESIRABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation
from a standard high school or equivalent.
Supplemental training courses in business education or
related field and excellent communication skills or any equivalent
combination of training and experience.
